Continuing saga
You never what the future is going to hold when you sign a hotel contract. Times are great, and then here comes a mess like this one. Who knew? In 20 years, I have never seen anything like this! So, it has been a learning experience. Here is the deal: A contract signed in April 2006 is currently not working. The hotel did renegotiate some with us, but only where they could get the revenue elsewhere. We ended up lowering food and beverage minimum and adding to our room block. In this way, we felt that instead of paying $100,000 in food and beverage that we knew we weren't going to spend, we would take a chance on rooms that may fill up (one by one) or the hotel could sell more rooms during our conference. This renegotiation happened about four months ago....at the time, the hotel also gave us 30% attrition, which helped too. Little did we know....more later....

It's a Tough World out there for meetings!
My first blog.....I have gone through so much over the fall and winter, that I hope I have some information that may help other meeting professionals (or association management professionals) if they have to go through the same. I will start with some posts on the worst of the worst....how I am dealing with $500,000 (or more) in penalties looking at me straight in the eye! One of my client's is in that situation currently.
More later!
